Ancient Egyptians walked Sphinx street to bring their god statues from Karnak to Luxor Temple during the annual rite. That ancient street is being restored and will be completed in October.

Pyramids in Giza are being repaired and closed one by one, and this month the Pyramid of Mycerinus reopened for the first time since 2005. Instead, the Pyramid of Chephren is now closed and repaired. The biggest pyramid, the Pyramid of Cheops is still open.

AUDIO GUIDE WILL BE INTRODUCED IN EGYPTIAN MUSEUM

In the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, new audio guide system will be introduced and a group more than 5 people will need to use this system from November 1. This is to reduce the noise in the museum and the cost of a headset is LE10 per person.

RAMADAN START AUGUST 22

This year's Ramadan started on August 22 and will last until 20th. Then it will be three day holidays. Major touristic attranctionas such as Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Mohammed Ali Mosque, Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings in Luxor, and Unfinished Obelisk and Aswan High Dam in Aswan will close ealier by the end of the holidays. The ticket offices close at 15:00pm, and the sites close at 16:00pm. Please note that the winter time has started from August 21.


TOMB OF HOREMHEB HAS OPENED IN VALLEY OF THE KINGS

Tomb of Horemheb, one of the best tombs in the Valley of the Kings, has opened to public again this summer. He was the general in Tuthankamen's period and he himself took the throne after Tuthankamen and his successor, Ay.

TERMINAL 3 OPENED IN CAIRO AIRPORT

The newest terminal is opened now in Cairo International Airport. The "Terminal 3" is for Egypt Air flights between New York and Cairo, also Egypt Air's all domestic flights. More MS flights are scheduled to be moved here.

ADMISSION FEES HAVE BEEN CHANGED

The restoration of the Tomb of Ramses IX has finished and now it's open to public. On the other hand, the Tomb of Ramses III was closed due to the restoration.

ADMISSION FEES INCREASE

It is announced that the admission fees all over Egypt will increase from November. Also, the fee for the Sound & Light Show in Temples of Karnak in Luxor, will go up from EGP75 to EGP100, which will be effective on January 1, 2009.

QAITBAY CITADEL IN ALEXANDRIA IS CLOSED

The Qaitbay Citadel, which stands over the ruin of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, is currently closed.

CAIRO TOWER IS CLOSED

The Cairo Tower in the center of Cairo will be closed between Apri 19 to June 18 due to restoration.


QUEEN TIYE'S STAUTE FOUND AT COLLOSI OF MEMNON

A complete statue of Queen Tiye, the wife of Amenhotep III, was found at the ruin of the Colossi of Memnon. The site is originally the Temple of Amenhotep III and a huge statue of the Pharaoh was also found.

NEFERTITI'S TOMB HAS BEEN FOUND?

A new tomb has been found in the Valley of the Kings and an Egyptian archaeologists team has been sent. It might be the tomb of Queen Neferititi, thefamous wife of Akhenaten. It the story is true, it will be announced soon.

TICKETS LIMITED AT TUTANKHAMEN'S TOMB

At the Tutankhamen's Tomb, tickets will be limited to sell 200 in the morning, 200 in the after noon starting December 1. And it is scheduled to close for restoration from 2008 May.

"Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" will be held in Dalas after London. London exhibit will start Novmber 15 and Dalas exibit will close May in 2009. Be careful as some of the important Tutankhamen's treasures are not in Egypt during these period.

TUTANKHAMEN'S MUMMY WILL BE IN PUBLIC

First time in the history, Tutankhamen's mummy will be displayed in his own tomb in the Valley of the Kings. The body will remain wrapped but the face will be revealed. It is scheduled to start in mid November.

Zahi Hawass, the head of the Egyptian Archaeology Office, identified the mummy of Queen Hatshepsut. A tooth in a box with her name, and DNA matches with other mummies are proofs.

The statue of Ramses II will be finally removed from the crowded Cairo street and replaced in the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), which is now constructed near the Pyramids. The new museum has been due to open in 2010 but the construction is being delayed.

A new museum will open in Saqqara in September to memorize the architect of the first pyramid, Imhotep. It will show the life of the great architect with antiquities around Saqqara.

RAMSES II WILL STAY CLOSE TO THE RAMSES STATION

The statue of Ramses II near the Ramses Station in Cairo was scheduled to be removed for protection. But the plan had been delayed and it was decided that it would remain at the current location for few more years. The statue will be restoreed in the new Grand Museum in the near future.

THE OLDEST UNIVERSITY IN THE WORLD WAS DISCOVERED IN ALEXANDRIA

Egyptian and Polish archaeologitsts discovered 13 lecture halls in Alexandria, which could hold about 5,000 students . It functioned from 5th to 7th century and the archaeologists said it could be the oldest university in the world.

PHOTOGRAPHY IN EGYPTIAN MUSEUM IS PROHIBITED

Photography in Egyptian Museum in Cairo has been prohibited since May 15, 2004. It was decided to protect the artifacts from tourists flashlight. It is not clear when they will lift of the ban.

TUTANKHAMEN'S WORLD TOUR STARTS IN SWITZERLAND

Artifacts from Tutankhamen's tomb will be on display in Basel Museum of Ancient Art in Switzlerland. The exhibition is April 7 to October 3 and it goes around the U.S., Japan, and China. THE MUMMY OF RAMSES I HAS RETURNED

The mummy, which is said to be the Ramses I's, has returned to Egypt from Micheal Carlos Museum of Atlanta, in the U.S.
It was stolen from Egypt about 150 years ago and went to Canada and the U.S.
The exhibition of this mummy is scheduled next year, in Luxor Museum.

ENTRANCE FEE AT PYRAMIDS WILL BE RAISED

From January 1 of 2004, the entrance fee at Pyramids in Giza wil be L.E. 100 (L.E. 50 for student).

Irish architects won the competition for the "Grand Museum" which will be built near the Pyramids in Giza. The construction of the new museum is scheduled to be completed in 2007.

RAMSES I WILL BE RETURNED TO EGYPT

A mummy which has been stored in a museum in Atlanta, will be returned to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The mummy is believed to be Ramses I, the founder of the 19th dynasty. Some other artifacts found in the tomb of Seti I will also be returned.

THE STATUE OF RAMSES II WILL BE MOVED TO THE NEW MUSEUM

The statue of Ramses II, standing near the Ramses Square, the center of the Cairo City, will be moved to the new museum which will be built near the pyramids in Giza. It has been long worried about the statue because of the air pollution in the city but the opening date of the new museum is still uncertain.

ROBOT CAMERA EXPLORED INSIDE THE GREAT PYRAMID

Dr. Zahi Hawass and his team explored inside the Great Pyramid in Giza with a robot camera to research another chamber. The camera traveled through the shaft from the Queen's Chamber and it reached another stone wall in front of the chamber. They're planning to continue the research for another 12 months.

The underwater archaeological site in Alexandria, which is said to be the ruins of Cleopatra's time, will be open to public from October. Diving tourists will be able to visit the site. The project of the world's first underwater museum has been delayed.

SOUND AND LIGHT SHOW IN ABU SIMBEL

The sound and light show in seven languages started at Abu Simbel. The languages are; Arabic, Russian, Japanese, English, French, Spanish and German. Three shows are 7p.m., 8p.m., 9p.m. until Apr. 27 and 8p.m., 9p.m., 10p.m. after 28th.

QUEEN'S PYRAMID WAS FOUND IN SAKKARA

The remains of the pyramid of King Pepi I's wife were found in Sakkara by French archaeologists. It's about 4000 years old and in her burial chamber, pyramid texts were found which was believed to be written only in the kings' tombs.

A tomb with a sarcophagus of the ancient god Osiris was found at Giza, between Sphinx and the Pyramid of Chefren. It is said that there were tunnels to the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid from this tomb.

Pope John Paul the 2nd will be in Egypt from February 24 to 26 and be scheduled to visit Coptic churches and the monastery of St. Catherine in the Mt. Sinai. Tourists may not be allowed to get into these areas during the visit.

Archaeologists found more than 100 mummies in the Bawiti village of Bahariyya Oasis, about 330 kilos south of Cairo. It's said more than 10,000 mummies would be buried in this 2000 years old necropolis. One of the tombs will be open to public in November and 5 mummies will be on exhibit.

The musical will start at the sunset of the Pyramids on December 31 1999 in Giza , and then the audience will see the sunrise of January 1, 2000. Prof. Sakuji Yoshimura's Waseda University excavation team unearthed a sarcophagus of a New Kingdom pharaoh in the tomb chapel in Dahshur, southern Cairo. The mummy was lost but numerous objects of the New Kingdom age were found.

UNDERWATER MUSEUM IN ALEXANDRIA

Egypt is planning to build an underwater museum in Alexandria, the ancient city of Cleopatra. In recent years, many artifacts were found in the sea of Alexandria including Cleopatra's father's sphinx.
